Case Study VIP Days: Marisa Matos

When Marisa contacted me, she had a page with an interactive Wheel of Life, which was getting a lot of organic traffic, but she wasn’t making the most of it. People liked her wheel, they downloaded it directly from the page and Marisa never kept their contact details.

Marisa asked me to do something apparently simple: put a form on the page instead of the download button, to collect the contact details of people interested in the topic, and send each registered person their personalized wheel of life. She also asked me to create and configure her new Mailerlite account, including all the best practices to ensure that the emails are delivered correctly to the recipients.

In order to do this work, Marisa initially booked a Power Hour, which was spent setting up Marisa’s Mailerlite account and analyzing all the work that would have to be done. Then an implementation strategy was outlined, and at the end of this hour (which turned out to be two), Marisa booked a VIP Day.

“My favorite part of the day was seeing the problems I had with the site being solved in real time, thanks to the constant feedback I received.”

The site, although made in WordPress, has a theme all custom-coded for the client, and this wheel of life is made with PHP, Javascript, and CSS code. Looking at code made by other people isn’t always easy, and adding to it or correcting it is always challenging because each person organizes the code according to the way they think (and I still can’t get inside people’s heads 😅).

Of course, it’s never a good practice to make changes to the code on a site that’s live, so I created a secure test environment, updated the entire system, automated the delivery of the Wheel of Life and fixed multiple technical and visual errors (and it was a good thing I did, because throughout the day I crashed this test site several times! 😂)

It’s an invisible, silent job, but if it’s not done properly it can compromise both the speed and the integrity of a site. You can see everything I did in detail here,

“It was a pleasure working with you. I will certainly recommend your work.”

In short, it was a meticulous programming job with 3 goals:

  1. Create a form to capture the name and email address of the person who completed the wheel of life
  2. Capture the personalized image that the person made, and save it in a folder on the server, for later access
  3. Take the data that the person entered, and the link to the generated image, and send it to mailerlite, where an automation was already set up to send this link to the person.

In the end, I also created a plugin so that Marisa could simply delete the oldest images from the server at the click of a button, so that server space wouldn’t become an issue. It was very rewarding to see the results happening in real time and to feel Marisa’s relief and enthusiasm with each problem solved.

“Ana Sofia is an excellent professional – she really knows what she’s doing and has a wealth of knowledge that allows her to solve the most demanding challenges. Another very positive aspect was the communication – easy, clear and flexible. I highly recommend her! :)-“
